"One More Reason"

One More Reason is a charitable initiative started by Attilio Meucci and carried out via SYMMYS with the purpose of supporting and promoting the study of mathematics among underprivileged secondary school students.

Learning, teaching, and practicing math is fun. For those of us in quantitative professions, it is also supposed to pay the bills. One More Reason to do math is to help people with more urgent problems than ours. In this regard, One More Reason takes a meta-approach, sponsoring next-generation problem-solvers. By doing math, underprivileged secondary school students:
» have inexpensive and constructive fun
    » stay out of trouble
» prepare for an honest profession financially bounded from below
» become part of a less materialistic community
» gain skills in solving problems more effectively
» learn to respect and support those who solve problems more effectively

One More Reason was launched in 2005, when Attilio donated the first royalty check from his book. Since then, Attilio has also donated all subsequent royalty checks. In addition, the proceeds from a series of executive trainings and seminars on quantitative finance offered by Attilio worldwide in his free time, most notably the Advanced Risk and Portfolio Management Bootcamp, have also been donated.
Originally, the proceeds from the aforementioned activities were donated directly to charitable institutions with a focus on healthcare in developing countries. Starting from 2011, One More Reason is investing in a donor-advised fund, from which grants to charitable institutions are written, with focus on supporting the study of mathematics by underprivileged secondary students worldwide.

Direct donations into the fund are very welcome and entitle the donor to the usual tax benefits. Please contact us for more details.
